(Radio Oklahoma News State Capitol Bureau)

Lawmakers hope doubling the pay for poll workers will address shortages on election day.  Co-sponsors are Democratic Senator Mary Boren and Republican Senator Warren Hamilton.  Senate Bill 290 took effect the first of this month.  Every voting precinct in Oklahoma has to have at least three officials on duty for election day – an inspector, a judge, and a clerk.  Inspector pay is now 225 dollars, up from 110, and judges and clerks will receive 200 dollars for the day’s work – up from 100.
