Oklahoma Highway Patrol Commissioner Tim Tipton calls it embarrassing. During a meeting with the Senate Public Safety Committee, he talked about how the state’s premier law enforcement agency doesn’t have its own gun range for training.
OHP is in the predesign phase to construct a gun range and driver training facility along I-44 in Wellston. It doesn’t have funding to construct classrooms or dormitories for academies yet. Tipton says OHP needs 120 troopers in the next few years to deal with vacancies.
