The sooner state now ranks among the worst for mothers and children all because of maternity care deserts. According to the 2024 Health of Women and Children report from the United Health Foundation, Oklahoma is 47th among the 50 states for maternal and child health. The report sites Oklahoma’s lack of maternal health care, the rate of uninsured women and the state mortality rate as contributing factors as well has the fact firearm deaths for children from ages 1 to 19 has increased in Oklahoma.
