Oklahoma Lawmakers Push constitutional amendment To refund budget surpluses to taxpayers

CLICK HERE to listen to Radio Oklahoma's Dale Forbis provide details on refunding budget surpluses to Oklahoma taxpayers.

Republican Rick West is one of two Oklahoma lawmakers calling for an amendment to the state Constitution. West says it would go into effect each time there was a budget surplus remaining after all bills are paid.

West said something must be done about rapid state government growth.

“We went from six billion to 13 billion,” West said. “Give or take 200 or 300 million. So we are growing government…”

West said if a special session of the legislature is called, he and Representative Tom Gann will run this bill. West added that it seemed his colleagues were just "making up stuff" to spend taxpayer money on during the last session and that state government is growing too rapidly.
