Oklahoma Sheriffs Voice Need for Higher Pay

Oklahoma sheriffs tell a state senate panel they are having a hard time retaining deputies because they cannot pay enough.


Wagoner County Sheriff, Chris Elliott says the longest he has had the same deputy is three years. The turnover, Elliott added, is caused by low pay.


“Sheriff’s offices can’t compete because we don’t have the funding…,” Elliott said.
