Small Voter Turnout on Super Tuesday

CLICK HERE to listen to details from Radio Oklahoma’s Ann Roberts.

While Super Tuesday was good for Democratic and Republican presidential leaders, it was not a good day for voter turnout. 200,000 fewer eligible voters cast their ballots in this year’s Super Tuesday primary compared to four years ago. Election officials say 17.4 percent of eligible Oklahoma voters took part in the presidential primary.

The decline is due to Democrats and dependents who can vote in the Democratic primary. Only 91,000 voted compared to 304,000 four years ago. Registered Republicans saw an increase of about 16 thousand.
