The Oklahoma Supreme Court sides with the Edmond Public School district by ruling that the Oklahoma State Department of Education does not have authority to decide which books public schools can have in their libraries. This happened when OSDE sent Edmond Schools a letter ordering the district to remove two books that they contend qualified as sexualized content. The State Supreme Court says the authority lies with local school boards to determine which books and instructional materials are deemed appropriate in compliance with state statutes.
