Late last year, the legislature approved funding for public schools to hire more police officers for security. However, the bill had some issues that author State Senator Dewayne Pemberton says are being addressed in a new bill.
The state is spending 50 million dollars a year to enhance school security. The bill, which is headed for the full senate for debate, would allow schools to hire retired officers or properly trained and certified private security.
